About us
We know the studies and the numbers. We teach you what they mean for you.
Birth care changes, and we keep up with it: the current research, the guidelines your hospital follows, the statistics behind each choice. Then we explain it the way fifty years of sitting beside families in Kingston taught us to, plainly and kindly.
Evidence first, then what to do with it
A lot of birth advice is a decade old or passed down by habit. We read the current studies, follow the guidelines and the statistics as they change, and attend the lectures where they are debated, including the ones we are invited to give to labour and delivery nurses at Queen’s University.
A number on its own doesn’t help you in the room. So every lesson takes the evidence and turns it into what it means for your outcomes, what your care team is likely to offer, and how to weigh the choice in front of you.
The way we say it comes from somewhere too: this course grew out of an in-person series taught in Kingston, Ontario, since 1969, where families have been met with the same calm and candour for more than fifty years.
The studies
Current research and the guidelines your hospital follows, read as they are published.
The numbers
What the statistics behind each option actually say about outcomes, in plain language.
Your way through
How to navigate those choices with your care team, with the questions to ask ready.
How we teach
You first, then your baby
Our care starts with the person giving birth. A calm, confident parent is the best thing a baby can arrive to.
Current, not customary
We teach what the evidence says today, not what was usual a decade ago, and we tell you when the research is still unsettled.
Your choices stay yours
We lay out the options and the questions to ask. We never decide for you.
Your educators
Both are birth and postpartum doulas and childbirth educators. Together they have supported over a hundred births, taught hundreds of families, and are invited to lecture to labour and delivery nurses at Queen’s University.
