The course

Who teaches this course?

Chelsea Rae and Mandy McLellan, both birth and postpartum doulas and childbirth educators. Together they have supported over a hundred births, taught hundreds of families, and are invited to lecture to labour and delivery nurses at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.

What’s in it?

Five chapters and twenty lessons, from how your body knows how to give birth to every way of coping with labour. Each lesson mixes short video, text you can read at your own pace, and a few key ideas to hold on to.

How long does it take?

There is no deadline; go at your own speed. Many families take a chapter a week.

Do I need to follow the lessons in order?

No. Everything is open from the start. Follow the path, or jump to whatever you need most right now.

Is the information up to date?

Yes. We follow current research, guidelines and statistics, and we update lessons when the evidence changes. Where the research is still unsettled, we say so.

Can my partner or support person watch too?

Yes, and we hope they will. One purchase covers your household, and we encourage the birthing person and their partner to watch together, somewhere calm and comfortable. Learning is a lot like birth: the environment matters.

When should I start?

Whenever you like. Many families begin in the second trimester so there is time to revisit before birth, but the course is just as useful started late.

Access and your account

How long do I have access?

For as long as you like. You pay once and the course never expires, so you can come back long after your baby arrives.

What devices does it work on?

Any phone, tablet or computer with a web browser. Nothing to install.

Can I download the videos?

No. Videos stream inside the course so they stay current and protected, but you can watch them as many times as you like.

How do I log in?

There is no password to remember. Enter your email on the log in page and we send you a six-digit code and a one-click link. Either one signs you in. You can also use “Continue with Google”.

I was given a gift code. How do I use it?

Open the button in your gift email, or go to the redeem a gift page and enter the code. Create your account with any email you like, confirm it with the code we send, and the course is yours. No payment is needed.

Paying and refunds

How much is it?

$199 CAD, paid once. No subscription, no renewals.

How do I pay?

By credit or debit card through our secure checkout. You’ll get a receipt by email straight away.

Can I get a refund?

Yes, within 7 days of purchase, as long as you have completed less than half of the lessons. A 10% administration fee is deducted to cover transaction costs. Email us and we’ll reply within two business days. Access ends once the refund is made. The full wording is in our refund policy.

Can I buy the course as a gift?

Yes. Choose Give as a gift, tell us who it is for, add a note and pick the day it should arrive. You pay once, with no account needed, and we email them a gift code. They create their own account and keep the course forever. If you prefer to hand it over yourself, the code is also in your confirmation email.

Is this right for me?

Is this medical advice?

No. The course is education and does not replace advice from your own care provider. Talk with them about your specific situation.

I’m planning a caesarean, or my pregnancy is high-risk. Is it still for me?

Yes. Knowing your hormones, your choices and the interventions you may be offered helps with every kind of birth.

I’m not in Canada. Does it still apply?

The physiology, comfort measures and decision-making apply everywhere. Where we describe hospital routines, we say which are Canadian so you can check how yours differ.

Can I take an in-person class instead?

Yes, if you are in the Kingston, Ontario area: Chelsea and Mandy also teach in person there. This online course covers the same ground for families everywhere else, or for anyone who prefers to learn at home.
